No surprise. Luke Combs took home the Entertainer of the Year award at last night’s “56th Annual CMA Awards”. It was his second year in a row taking home the big trophy. He also won Album of the Year for “Growin’ Up”.
He wasn’t the only double winner. Lainey Wilson was the Female Vocalist of the Year and New Artist of the Year winner. Cody Johnson’s song “‘Til You Can’t” won Single of the Year and Music Video of the Year. As it should’ve.
Now if you’re keeping score. There hasn’t been a female CMA Entertainer of the Year since Taylor Swift in 2011. Pretty ironic considering they opened the show with a throwback video of Loretta Lynn winning it back in 1972. God rest her soul.
That clip was the lead-in to the Loretta Lynn tribute featuring Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, and Reba McEntire. They each did a little bit of a Loretta song and then teamed up on “Coal Miner’s Daughter“.
