Did you have money on Jelly Roll winning big at last night’s “CMT Music Awards”? “Son of a Sinner” won Breakthrough Male Video of the Year, Male Video of the Year, and CMT Digital-First Performance of the Year.
Lainey Wilson also had a great night. “Heart Like a Truck” won Female Video of the Year and she shared the Collaborative Video of the Year with Hardy for “Wait in the Truck”.

Speaking of sharing. Kane Brown and his wife Katelyn Brown took home the big prize when “Thank God” won Video of the Year.
Kane co-hosted the show with Kelsea Ballerini, and I have a feeling they’ll be coming back. They work very well together.
Shania Twain was given the Equal Play Award, which recognizes artists who help elevate diversity in country music. She thanked CMT for “pushing the equal play agenda” . . . and added, quote, “I believe in an all-inclusive country music.”
The show was held in Austin, Texas for the first time, and they took every chance to remind us. Kane ate barbecue brisket on stage (amen to that), Kelsea whipped out a burrito, and Keith Urban sang in front of the state capitol.
There were Texas-sized performances from Blake Shelton who sang “Austin”, Cody Johnson who did “Human”, and Jelly Roll, who was backed by an Austin gospel choir for a show-stopping performance of his new song “Need a Favor”.
What do you get when Darius Rucker helps the Black Crowes perform their song “She Talks to Angels”? A really good preview of their upcoming “CMT Crossroads”.
They celebrated the 10th anniversary of CMT’s Next Women of Country with Alanis Morissette being joined by Lainey Wilson, Ingrid Andress, Madeline Edwards, and Morgan Wade for Alanis’ iconic song, “You Oughta Know”.
The show closed with the all-star Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute, and it delivered. It featured Cody Johnson and Paul Rodgers on vocals, Billy Gibbons, Slash, and Warren Haynes on guitar and LeAnn Rimes and Wynonna Judd joining in as The Honkettes.
