What’s the Greatest Country Music Song Ever Made?

A writer for “Outkick” just asked the following question on X (formerly known as Twitter). What’s the greatest country music song ever made? Then he went on to the impossible task of ranking the Top 10, based on his responses.

Here they are:

1. “Amarillo by Morning” by George Strait (as it should be)

2. “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue” by Toby Keith

3. “Take Me Home, Country Roads” by John Denver

4. “Friends in Low Places by Garth Brooks

5. “The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia” by Reba McEntire

6. “A Country Boy Can Survive” by Hank Williams, Jr.

7. It was a tie between “A Boy Named Sue” and “I Walk the Line” by Johnny Cash

8. “The Gambler” by Kenny Rogers

9. “Stand by Your Man”by Tammy Wynette

10. “Mama Tried” by Merle Haggard

It seems if you ever want engagement online, just make a Top 10 list…you’re bound to make someone mad. How is there no music from Dolly Parton, Waylon Jennings, Alan Jackson, George Jones, Hank Williams Sr. or Keith Whitley on this list? Don’t get me wrong. All of these 10 songs are great, but they missed a few?
