Garth Brooks is catching heat after his lawyers publicly revealed his rape accuser’s name. They amended a complaint in federal court on Tuesday and included her actual name in it.
We’re not going to say the name (for obvious reasons), but she’s a former employee who also worked with his wife Trisha for years.
They seemed to justify it by citing one of her filings from last week. She’d said that if the COURT decided she had to reveal her name to move forward with the case, she was willing to do that.
Her lawyers put out a statement and didn’t pull punches. Quote, “Garth Brooks just revealed his true self. Out of spite and to punish, he publicly named a rape victim.”
They claimed it’s because “he thinks the laws don’t apply to him.” Meanwhile, Garth’s lawyers cast doubt on the whole thing in a separate filing, calling him “the victim of a shakedown.”
They claim she came up with a, quote, “malicious scheme to blackmail” him into paying her millions, because he didn’t give her a salaried job with benefits.
Garth briefly addressed the lawsuit at the start of his podcast Monday, calling it “the elephant in the room.” He told fans to “settle in,” because it could take two years. So, quote, “Let’s hold hands and take the trip together.” Whatever the hell that means.
He said that, legally, he couldn’t say anything else. So, that’s where he left it.
Here’s the video for your convenience. He talks about it from :09 – :42.
