Zach Bryan: “I Don’t Want to Be a Country Musician”

It seems like every artist nowadays is trying to find their way into Country music. Well, not Zach Bryan. He’s looking for a way out.

He recently sat down for an interview with his idol, Bruce Springsteen (who is a douche bag in my humble opinion), where they took turns asking each other questions about their careers.

It was a very friendly chat between the two, but towards the end Zach said this to Bruce: “I’m not insulting your genre, but when I listen to your music. If you put different production to this, it’s a country song. All of ’em.  And that’s why I don’t want to be a country musician.”

Bruce then says, “that’s fascinating.” To which Zach repeats himself and says, “I don’t want to be a country musician. Everyone calls me it. I want to be a songwriter. You are a quintessential songwriter…no one calls Bruce Springsteen a Rock musician.”

He said that last part while drawing an imaginary box with his fingers. So, it seems like Zach doesn’t want to be boxed in, or labeled as anything.

To be fair, he’s already pretty distant from the country music world. He doesn’t do the award shows, and mostly keeps to himself.
