I would’ve never opened this.
King George Strait’s “Ocean Front Property” was originally released on January 12, 1987, courtesy of MCA Records. It’s apparently certified 2× Multi-platinum by the RIAA and as it should. It was also the first album to debut at #1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums Chart at least according to Wikipedia. Hopefully this news is all true…because it was one of George’s best albums.
In 1987 8-track tapes were still a thing and business was good. Then CDs came along to wipe out the tapes market, then of course the digital age came along and here we are. Music is on everyone’s phone now.
This guy who goes by, @obs_pastor, on TikTok decided to open up a thirty eight year old “Ocean Front Property” 8-track and he proceeded to play it in his old truck. It sounded like 1987 in that truck too. It sounded simply beautiful to me.
I’ve seen these 8-tracks selling online from as little as $20 to $50. I’m impressed he opened it and I’m happy to see he played it right after he opened it…but like I said…I would’ve never opened that 8-track. It would have stayed sealed and placed in a glass case for observation.
