Billy Strings And Bryan Sutton Teamed Up For A Reimagined Charlie Daniels Classic Called “The Devil Went Down To Deep Gap”

Now know where the Devil went after Charlie Daniels told the story about him getting his ass beat in a Georgia.

Billy Strings and Bryan Sutton are hands down two of the best bluegrass’ guitarists known as of now. They’ve also teamed up for “The Devil Went Down To Deep Gap,” which is a cleverly-reimagined version of Charlie Daniels’ classic “The Devil Went Down To Georgia.”

Of course “The Devil Went Down To Georgia” needs no introduction. It was a massive hit and it still hits you in the feels today. The song was actually included on Charlie’s 1979 record “Million Mile Reflections”, and follows the story of a fiddle player named Johnny who found himself in a competition with the devil himself, wagering his soul for a fiddle of gold. Luckily Johnny won, and every time Charlie calls the devil a “son of a bitch” it fills my soul.

The reimagined song follows a similar story line but instead of a fiddle, “The Devil Went Down To Deep Gap” has a guitar of gold up for grabs against Billy Strings’ soul.

“The devil bowed his head because he knew that he had been beat
And he laid that golden guitar on the ground at Arthel’s feet
He said, ‘Devil, you can come back if you want another shock
But if you ever show your face around here from now on, call me Doc’”

They could’ve called the devil a son of a bitch again…because he really is.
