There are two kinds of doll-lovers. The kids who want the most realistic dolls possible…and the ones who are perfectly fine drawing a face on a toilet paper roll, wrapping it in a towel, and pretending it’s a baby.
If you’re the first kid who wants the most realistic doll, you’re in luck. There’s a new toy that’s apparently about to hit the market called the “My Mini Baby Mom & Surprise Doll.” It’s a weird one too. It features a pregnant Barbie-style doll…with a removable stomach. And the stomach contains a very realistic amniotic sac…with a tiny plastic baby and slime inside.
To birth the baby, you remove the doll’s stomach…pull out the sac…and squeeze it until you can push the baby out. You can then flip the doll’s stomach around so her belly is flat again. I mean this what you want your kids playing with?
It seems like this would be a one-time activity…also like an actual birth…there’s no putting the genie back in the bottle. Unless of course they release an upgraded pack where she conceives again. Wait, I did not suggest that.
The doll is supposedly available for preorder in the U.K. It’s unclear if and when it’ll be available in the U.S. That said, the link to the product seems to be down, as of yesterday. And I really hope there aren’t actual people buying this.
Naturally, the internet has a lot of thoughts.
In one reaction video, a woman said, “I get that she had a C-section, the baby was breech. [But] where’s Ken?” Also, if she could share her fitness routine, that would be great. Those abs after a C-section, damn!”
Other comments include…“oh…no one ever explained that I just flip my stomach around.”…“I can’t decide if this is educational or terrifying or a bit of both.” And this one is the winner, “Baby Daddy sold separately.”
This doll could be a helpful learning tool for a kid who’s ready for some real talk. Of course while also be TMI for most young girls…if not alarming.
