The latest TikTok trend with country music is leaving real fans confused. Brides are showing off their wedding rings and happy marriages to the tune of Randy Travis’ “On the Other Hand“.
Now the song is a certified classic country twanger. “On the Other Hand” was written by Paul Overstreet and Don Schlitz, and of course Randy Travis recorded it in 1985. It was first released as a single in July of 1985, peaking at number #67 in the United States. It was Randy’s first single with Warner Bros. Nashville and was only a minor hit.
Then after the chart successes of Randy’s next single, “1982”, the label decided to re-release “On the Other Hand” in April of 1986, and it became his first number one hit in both the United States and Canada. “On the Other Hand” and “1982” were both included on Randy’s 1986 debut album, “Storms of Life”.
So, here we are in 2026 now and this TikTok is an awkward choice because the song is about the temptation of a married man to cheat. People are likely just taking the chorus of the song at face value and probably have never listened to the entire song. And they really should considering how it’s being used.
