If you were a fan of country music in the 2010’s…im sure you heard of The Band Perry.
They came right out of the gate throwing major hits around, the siblings trio scored not one…but five Top 20 singles from their self-titled debut album from 2010. It included their “You Lie” along with their signature song, “If I Die Young”, which has since become one of the few country songs in history to be certified Diamond by the RIAA.
They followed their debut album up with their successful sophomore album in 2012 with, “Pioneer”, which contained another string of hits, including two #1s, “Better Dig Two” and “DONE”. It also two Top 10s on that sophomore album of theirs called “Don’t Let Me Be Lonely” and “Chainsaw”. And I remember playing the hell out heir music on country radio as a music director at the time. We couldn’t get away from their music.
After that nice run, everything seemingly fell off the rails for the the sibling trio as they were well on their way to superstardom throughout the rest of the 2010s.
Things literally got weird. They made some odd stylistic/image changes, ventured into pop and EDM and eventual a hiatus happened. Then of course during the hiatus, we saw the front woman, Kimberly Perry, try her hand at a solo career in 2023. And they didn’t really work out at all. Even though it contained a reimagining of their bands hit, “If I Die Young, Pt. 2”.
The Band Perry “returned” in 2025 with a brand new lineup within the group upon signing with Big Machine Label Group (BMLG). Now instead of the lineup consisting of siblings, Kimberly, Reid and Neil, now it’s simply Kimberly and her husband, Johnny Castello. It was announced upon that triumph return that Castello would be directly replacing Neil as a backing vocalist, while Reid departed the band in pursuit of artist management.
The Band Perry has released a string of new songs throughout 2026, including “PSYCHOLOGICAL”,“Buzzards” ,“Kill It” and an updated duet version of “You Lie” featuring Kaitlin Butts. Additionally, they were featured on the secondary stage at Nissan Stadium during the 2026 CMA Fest, where Kimberly and Johnny performed “If I Die Young” together. And looked like Johnny didn’t know some of the words to their songs.
There was a lot of drama behind the scenes though during all of it. Kimberly has also been doing a lot press touring since the return, to obviously reintroduce the band. The most notably interviews were with the Rolling Stone and Bobby Bones’ podcasts over the past year. It was during these interviews that she’d claim that both of her brothers were completely on board with the current state of the band.
She even told Rolling Stone that both of them gave her their blessing to continue The Band Perry without them…
“Yeah, absolutely. I think they are very interested in The Band Perry getting landed as well. We are so proud of the past that we shared, and I think it’s just been about where does it go in the future. This was really my family band in the living room before anything else…
It’s just so cool to feel that love and support and to know that, ‘Hey guys, I’ve got this. Everything that we built was so magical and so beautiful. And I’m gonna go land this with the same integrity that we started it with.’ And of course, there’s always an open seat for a brother if they ever want to tour.”
According to Neil, that story wasn’t actually the real truth. As in it was kind of bs. Neil took to his Instagram to tell his side of the story.
His post including a scene from the television show “Succession” talking about the uncomfortable family feud and two contradictory answers from Kimberly on the podcasts, he would tell his side of the story in the caption. And he said a lot.
There’s more too. He followed that post up with a snarky reel calling out Kimberly with the caption reading…
“Preparing for my Netflix documentary about how The Band Perry went from three siblings to my sister and her husband.”
Sibling feuds are the best.
