Kacey Musgraves Wants Fans Of Different Political Views To Feel Welcome At Her Shows

She’s known to proudly run her mouth about things she believes in.

Kacey Musgraves is an outspoken progressive country artist who frequently advocates for LGBTQ+ rights, gun control, and immigrant support. She regularly addresses social issues on stage and social media, drawing praise from fans and as well as heavy backlash from conservative commentators and traditional country audiences.

Kacey uses foul language to get her point across often too. At her show in Dallas, TX she went on rant about Christopher Columbus saying, “f*ck Christopher Columbus”, while calling Christopher Columbus Day… Indigenous People Day. Which is comical to me.

I get that Columbus apparently did some horrible things that got him eventually thrown in prison…but Indigenous people weren’t all saints neither. Let’s be real. History is full of people who had horrific issues on their hands. It’s why I don’t like praising people I don’t personally know.

During a show at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, Kacey took some time to acknowledge how much her fans have supported her this year and how thankful she is that all of the ladies in country music have had such a great year. She’s basically trying to say I’m sorry for being a bitch…and I still need your money.

Kacey explained that we’re all still neighbors regardless, and it’s simply an opportunity to be “extra kind” because the world needs more than that. She said…

“I know I stay pretty outspoken about things… If you’ve been around since the beginning you know that. But I do also just wanna say, though, that as much as I can be outspoken, if there is anybody in this room tonight, and there very well could be, if there’s anyone in here that thinks a lot differently than I do, I just wanna say that I’m really glad you’re here still. Truly.

You may be a new fan, you might be an old fan, and I just want you to know that, even if we both think differently than each other, we’re still neighbors and I’m still glad you’re here. And I hope you’ve had a great time tonight. I hope you felt love in this building, and maybe you’ve made a friend or two, or maybe you’re just enjoying the songs, but I would never want my outspokenness to make someone feel unwelcome in this space. Ever.

And I think this is a time to be extra kind. That doesn’t mean be a doormat, it mean stand up for what you believe in. But you can still be kind, and some people don’t like that and the more they don’t like it, I think that’s the kinder you have to be.”

I mean that’s very nice of her to say…but I don’t think she really means it. Mainly because of the things she constantly says with a microphone in front of thousands of people. She posts things on a platform that reaches millions of people. The damage has been done. Let’s see if her next rant shitting on people she disagrees with comes with an apology.
