This is going to be well deserved tribute to the Big Dog himself who we lost to soon this year.
Brooks & Dunn, Lainey Wilson and Sammy Hagar will lead an all-star tribute to late country legend Toby Keith at the 2024 CMT Music Awards, along with special appearances by Lukas Nelson and Roger Clemens. The performance will be backed by Keith’s longtime band according to the press release that was issued on Thursday (April 4).
Keith “passed peacefully…surrounded by his family,” on February 5, following a battle with stomach cancer. He was only 62.
The country music community mourned Keith’s loss in heartfelt tributes, including Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn, Terri Clark, Old Dominion, Carrie Underwood and many others.
Brooks & Dunn recently revealed the 2024 Class of Country Music Hall of Fame inductees, which includes the Oklahoma-born country star. Keith’s son, Stelen Keith Covel, expressed his gratitude on the family’s behalf during the live-streamed announcement hosted in the Hall of Fame Rotunda Downtown Nashville, Tennessee.
Performers set to take the stage during the 2024 CMT Music Awards include host Kelsea Ballerini, Jason Aldean, Bailey Zimmerman, Cody Johnson, Jelly Roll, Keith Urban, Lainey Wilson, Little Big Town with Sugarland, Megan Moroney, NEEDTOBREATHE with Jordan Davis, Old Dominion with Megan Moroney, Parker McCollum with Brittney Spencer, Sam Hunt, and Trisha Yearwood, who will also receive the first-ever June Carter Cash Humanitarian Award.
The 2024 CMT Music Awards will return to Moody Center in Austin, Texas, taking place on Sunday, April 7, and airing live (8:00-11:00 PM, ET/delayed PT). Viewers can watch on CBS and stream live and on demand on Paramount+.
