This happened in Texas the other day. And if you haven’t seen the footage, it’s a master class on how not to tow a car.
Some guy’s old Saab broke down on a highway in Houston on Monday. Now instead of calling a tow truck, they decided to save some money, he hooked a big chain to it and had his girlfriend tow him in her SUV.
Towing with a chain isn’t the safest option, or the legal option. But it’s something people might do in a pinch. Someone just has to sit in the car being towed to steer it and ride the brakes. It didn’t go very well at all.
The couple in Houston made one key mistake though. They hooked the chain up to the back of his car and towed it backwards. His car was all over the road.
His girlfriend was also going too fast. So the axle of the car being towed broke, and he couldn’t steer at all. Yes, he was inside the car for all this, hanging on for dear life.
An eyewitness said they saw the girlfriend laughing as she drove. So, she maybe didn’t realize how serious the situation was. Luckily, no one got hurt.
Cops didn’t end up citing them. But the boyfriend did get in trouble for something unrelated. His name is Dontae Brown, and he’s 32.
It turned out he had an outstanding warrant in Georgia, so they arrested him and took him to jail.
He and his girlfriend told police they didn’t call a tow truck because they couldn’t afford one. Now his car is all banged up, maybe totaled.
