The country music godfather, Jamey Johnson, knew his wife was “the one” pretty much immediately.
He actually popped the question one day after meeting her. He apparently moves quick when he knows what he wants.
Brittney Eakins said “no” the first time he asked…however, the pair started dating and they finally tied the knot earlier this week at Graystone Quarry in Franklin, Tennessee, just outside of Nashville. The ceremony hosted about 350 guests on Tuesday (May 20), accommodating touring schedules for fellow artists in attendance. Johnson and Eakins shared their love story and wedding details with PEOPLE in a story published on Thursday (May 22).
The newlyweds talked about how they met in January 2019 in Jackson, Mississippi. Jamey and Brittney, whose career is in law, were both attending the governor’s inauguration, and the country star “proposed the next day,” he told PEOPLE. Jamey ain’t getting any younger and he wasn’t messing around.
Brittney told the publication that she countered the proposal with “a date first” instead, and they continued the relationship for years to get know each other. Jamey popped the question again in March of 2023, and that’s when, Brittney finally said “yes.”
Jamey then asked ERNEST to perform their first dance song, Chris LeDoux’s classic “Look At You Girl”.
ERNEST said he’s “played some nerve racking moments. But singing the first dance song for [Jamey Johnson] takes the (wedding) cake.” He added it was “an honor” to take the stage. Congrats to Jamey and Brittney in saying “I do”.
