Now we know why “Feathered Indians” has been shelved, and it’s strait up bs.
Tyler Childers sat down with GQ ahead of his ‘Snipe Hunter’ (which is out now by the way) album release, and proceeded to say that he wrote that song when he was young, at a different place in life, and the love song was inspired by a Red Man Chewing Tobacco belt buckle that he owned at the time. It was a better time if you ask me, because now we’re in a world of a Tyler I don’t rlike.
I get that artist are people too and some people change over the years. Tyler feels some Indigenous groups often distance themselves from that term, and there was a lot of conversations as Tyler changed over the years. Which evidently lead to him looking in the mirror and really contemplated the use of the word “Indian” in his hit song.
He concluded what was right to say and what wasn’t, and he had this realization:
“If there’s conversation amongst those individuals about whether they should be using that word or not, then it ain’t for me to be using. It’s not mine.”
To each their own as to what they think is offensive or not. People are offended by different things and opinions due to just viewing life differently. It’s really that simple. I personally don’t feel it’s an offensive term and I’m actually offended at the stupidity of his realization. That’s just me though. Mainly because I think “Feathered Indians” is a certified twanger.
