Justin Moore Dedicated the Perfect Song, “If Heaven Wasn’t So Far Away”, To Charlie Kirk’s Wife and His Family

There have been a lot country artists that have spoken about Charlie Kirk during their shows since his assignation in Utah. Charlie left behind his wife, Erika Kirk, and their two young children. One is three and the other is only a year old. Seriously, how in the hell do you tell your kids that daddy is not coming home.

Those are some of the hardest questions to answer as a parent. Erika did speak publicly on Friday evening and it killed me when she talked about what she said to her three year old about her dad. She said, “he’s on a work trip with Jesus’, so he can afford your blueberry budget”.

Justin Moore was headlining the “Hop Country Music Fest” in Yakima, Washington and took some time to honor Kirk and his family.

He dedicated his song, “If Heaven Wasn’t So Far Away”, to the Kirk family. Justin obviously got emotional as he talked about being a father himself, as well as what Erika and her children are going through.

I wanna send this next song out to the Kirk family. I regret that I never had the opportunity to meet Charlie or his family. But I don’t care which side of the aisle you’re on. It’s just a tragic, tragic deal. It just shouldn’t happen. It just shouldn’t happen.

And as my wife and I…we just celebrated 23 years together and we have four kids. I cannot imagine the questions that she’s having to answer to a 3 and a 1 year old. It just breaks my heart.

To be fair I still tear up just listening to that song thinking about my mom on any given day. God speed Charlie.
