The CMAs went down last night…and it wasn’t horrible to watch. Even though it was three hours long.
Here are the highlights from last night’s show:
1. Lainey Wilson did a great job as the host for the night. She kept things moving…she was funny…and she also cleaned up nicely. She won Entertainer of the Year, Female Vocalist of the Year, and Album of the Year. No big deal.
2. The best few jokes of the night were from Leanne Morgan, who’s funny as hell, as she complained about menopause…
Then Brooks & Dunn picked up the menopause joke during the Vocal Duo of the Year award speech and ran with it.
And Bert Kreischer’s warning about Nashville Hot Chicken was pretty spot on.
3. Kelsea Ballerini sang a new song called “I Sit in Parks”. But then halfway through the song, a bunch of rain dumped down on her.
4. Some of the best performances were from Chris Stapleton sang the hell out of “Bad As I Used to Be”…Stephen Wilson Jr. impressed everyone with his cover of “Stand by Me”…and The Red Clay Strays crushed their song “People Hatin'”. Then, Steve Martin and Alison Brown even came out and did a banjo duet, and country music needs more banjo in it too.
5. The Vince Gill tribute was special, too. Vince is so cool to see, he had King George Strait give his intro. Vince was given the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award and it very well deserved.
6. The best part of the night was after Lainey won Entertainer of the Year, she forgot she had to still be host and close out the show.
As for Morgan Wallen fans…they’re obviously pissed again that he didn’t win the Entertainer of the Year award and they voiced their emotions online and I get their frustration. The man continues to break records in music industry and he sells stadiums everywhere he plays.
So, I can’t really blame them for sounding off…

This one was really pissed…

I don’t think PJ is a fan of Lainey’s at all. I’m only assuming here.
