Is Kenny Chesney’s 2005 hit “Beer In Mexico” part of your tailgate party playlist? It is for mine.
Apparently after all this time, Kenny finally revealed that it’s not actually a party song and it’s a bit more introspective than you’d think. So, he’s basically ruining everyone tailgate party by bringing this little fact up now.
He wrote it when he was 36, while out in Cabo San Lucas for Sammy Hagar’s birthday. Kenny said he was looking at how all his friends and people he worked with had families and kids, except for him.
Kenny said, “here I was, 36 years old, I didn’t have that stuff. But I was building what I was building. And so I went, ‘Wow, maybe I don’t have to figure it all out right now. It’s okay enough to be playing Sammy’s birthday party.’
I don’t have to figure out all of that stuff out at the moment. I thank Sammy for that. That was a true, autobiographical song.”
